British Airways will breathe a huge sigh of relief after winning an injunction to stop a planned 12 day cabin crew strike over Christmas. The High Court upheld BA’s complaint that voting irregularities made the union’s ballot invalid, and that Unite breached industrial relations law by balloting around 1,000 staff who should not have been balloted.
The decision will be greeted by most with open arms, and people can continue with their Christmas and New Year travel plans. However, the people who balloted will obviously be less than happy with the result. It remains to see if Unite plan a new ballot in the New Year, but the union will lose the impact of holding action over the Christmas period.
BA has announced that it is delighted that the threat of a Christmas strike has been lifted by the court.”
